Comic Day! Week Thirty-Five - August 20, 2008- Comic Day! Because it's more fun than a hurricane. Click here to join the discussion, and for a peek at what you'll find in stores this week, head over to Diamond's new release lists.
This week, on the sublime Johnny Gigawatt & the Tiger Men from Mars, Crises that are Final, Invasions that are Secret, and Watchmen possibly getting whacked.
Picks of the Week
Final Crisis Legion Of Three Worlds #1 - Another week, another Final Crisis mini that doesn't - on the surface - seem to be too closely tied to the main event, yet may be better than it. This one involves Superman, Superman-Prime and three different versions of the Legion of Superheroes. The 'classic' Legion seems to be ascendant nowadays, and for the most part they look to be the stars of this book (unlike seemingly everyone else, my Legion is the Waid-Kitson Legion begun back in 2005). Expect huge casts of characters, and an equally high body count.
X-Factor Special Layla Miller - Ah, Layla Miller. Decried by many (and in my opinion, rightly so) as 'Little Miss Deus Ex Machina' in 2005's House of M event, she had blossomed into a fascinating enigma in the pages of Peter David's X-Factor. That is until she was stranded 80 years in the future during this winter's Messiah CompleX event. So it's with great anticipation that we get the return of Layla in this X-Factor special.
Young X-Men #5 - Another title at a crossroads. I've thought the book has been okay so far, but nothing spectacular. They've done a bit with an almost completely unknown cast (seriously, has any team book made up of mostly pre-existing characters has ever had less name recognition?) but I'm still not quite sure why this particular team is together. I want to like this book, but they need to hit at least a triple - if not a home run - to keep me coming back.
Question of the week - It's the middle of the month, so that means solicitations. You can check what Marvel, DC, Image and Dark Horse have in store for this November. So, what looks good, what looks bad, and which covers jump out at you?

Microsoft: Instruments Will Work Across Titles on 360 Too- Yesterday we learned that Sony had brokered some sort of music game armistice, promising at least basic cross compatibility between the peripherals of the major titles. Well today Microsoft also announced that the instruments will work with the various titles.
Quote:
At the bottom a Gamasutra article about the blog post it stated:
Similar music game peripheral enforcement has yet to be enacted (or at least officially announced) on the Xbox 360 platform.
For the record, we also do that, so consider this an official announcement.
All the instruments from Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Rock Revolution will be cross-compatible.
So there you have it. Peace in our time. Your Rock Band gear will work on Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Revolution, and vice versa. No word yet on whether or not these games will be playing as nicely on Nintendo's systems.

Intel Already Thinking Next-Gen- We may be content with the current generation of game consoles, but Intel is already trying to stake it's claim on the next generation of consoles. Intel spoke to DevelopMag about their plans, which center around it's multi-core Larrabee processor.
Quote:
Weve been working with a lot of game developers. All of the input and design of Larrabee comes with the involvement of various software firms in the industry. Its very much driven by feedback from the industry, telling us the type of things they would like to do, and how can they do them, explained Coday.
Its definitely something we would want to discuss with the console vendors, and hope that the architecture that were providing is something that is very compelling for them and be interesting.
Coday described Larrabee as an inflection point for games developers, saying it will help return coding to easier single chip roots but with the enhanced power of a next generation many-core chipset.
Intel predicts that consumer electronics using the processor will be on store shelves in 2010

A Conversation With Jonathan Coulton
We really enjoyed this episode of Evil Avatar Radio and we hope you will too. Although, its always fun getting to talk to Jonathan Coulton. Turns out, like me, hes a fan of pinball. So much so that weve actually invited him out to Shortys one night during PAX for some pinball & beer. He seems pretty open to the idea. Oh, that and letting me introduce him on stage at PAX as well. Heres hoping anyway.
Seriously, its a fun interview and Jonathan does confirm that he will be the final performance at PAX on Friday night. He also tells us about what hes currently working on, his involvement with Portal 2, and one of the most amazing things hes ever eaten.
Also in this episode, we hit a few news notes of the week and talk about game demos (Force Unleashed & FFXIII), Castle Crashers, Everquest, Mega Man, Warhammer, & the issue of DRM.

Dragonforce Single Debuts in Guitar Hero III- Activision sends along word that English speed metal band, Drangonforce, will debut their new single as part of an upcoming Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock downloadable pack.
Quote:
Known for their out-of-control riffs, fast paced songs and twin guitar solos, DragonForce will ascend the virtual stage once again to unleash “Heroes of Our Time” – the debut single off their new album Ultra Beatdown – in a three-song track pack for Activision Publishing, Inc.’s Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. The DragonForce track pack will be available on August 21, 2008 giving gamers the unique opportunity to download and play “Heroes of Our Time” in advance of the album release.
After experiencing the furious fret work of “Through the Fire and Flames,” Guitar Hero fans will have their shredding skills pushed to the limit with “Revolution Deathsquad” and “Operation Ground and Pound” from their third album Inhuman Rampage, in addition to “Heroes of Our Time,” which will set players’ fingers ablaze as they try to keep up with some of the most challenging riffs to date.
The three-song DragonForce Track Pack will be available for download on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and in the PLAYSTATION Store for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system on August 21, 2008.

Codemasters New Four-Letter Word- Following up DIRT and GRID, Codemasters has turned racing into a four-letter word, announcing their newest high speed Xbox 360, PS3 and PC speedster, FUEL.
Quote:
Set to revolutionise multi-terrain racing with the largest environment ever created in race gaming, Codemasters today announced signing the worldwide publishing rights to FUEL from Asobo Studios. Promising a truly next generation addition to the racing genre, FUEL is in development at Asobo Studios in Bordeaux, France, for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Games For Windows LIVE and due to release in 2009.
Born of Asobo Studios cutting-edge proprietary engine, the result of over four years in development, FUEL will present players with an astonishing no-boundaries playfield thats over 5,000 square miles (14,000+ km²) in size. Creating the ultimate competitive go-anywhere racing experience, FUEL will have players competing across wildly different terrain and executing spectacular death-defying stunts as they race dozens of varied two and four-wheeled rides and explore this epic world on an unprecedented scale.
FUEL is set in an alternate present in which whole swathes of the globe have been ravaged by the effects of climate change brought on by decades of environmental abuse. Here oil prices have rocketed and yet a new breed of racing junkie takes to the wastelands, pitting their grungy home-tuned vehicles against each other in an all-new extreme sport as they compete to win fuel supplies. To triumph means travelling the wastelands to challenge the best; from the tsunami-wrecked pacific coast through the Nevada wastelands, including the Grand Canyon, up treacherous snow-capped mountains, thick forests, arid deserts, abandoned lakeside resorts and much more.
Bringing this vast, open ended landscape to life is a dynamic weather system with full day and night transitions, brilliant sunshine, torrential rain and everything in between, plus destructive tornados, sandstorms, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and blizzards requiring mid-race strategy changes.
FUEL raises the bar in terms of scale and exhilaration for racing games. We begin with the largest racing environment to appear in gaming ever. With our accelerated effects of climate change and dynamic weather system we add an extra dimension that change races on-the-fly and constantly presents new challenges to players, said Sebastian Wloch, Chief Executive Officer, Asobo Studios.
Player choice lies at the heart of FUELs action-packed races and with a huge range of vehicles, packs of up to 16 vehicles speeding across diverse terrain and a no-boundaries, no-limits approach to racing, means players have never had so much freedom to conquer the wilderness and take the chequered flag.
Complete with the ability to go online to explore this massive world and compete in hundreds of multiplayer challenges, FUEL is coming in 2009 for the PLAYSTATION 3 system, Xbox 360 and Games For Windows.

Nintendo "Disappointed" in E3 Showing- Edge (by way of VGChartz) has posted a quote from Nintendo Marketing boss Cammie Dunaway, revealing that Nintendo was disappointed with their E3 performance for not appealing more to hardcore gamers.
Quote:
Nintendo of America sales and marketing boss Cammie Dunaway has revealed that the company was disappointed with its showing at this years E3 Media and Business Summit, which drew criticism from some sections of the gaming community, notably core gamers.
I would say the message is we were disappointed with our performance at E3, Dunaway told VGChartz. There were titles like Wario which we think will be really fun titles that we should have showcased.
We were excited that Mr. Miyamoto made the commitment that Pikmin is coming. It would have been nice if we could have said that on stage. But, we think it was a good recognition for us that we care for our core fans, and not just the new people who are now discovering Nintendo.
I know I would be disappointed if my company had the #1 console system and the #1 handheld system. No where to go from there but down, right?

O no.

Me parecía demasiado lento y trabado.

Bueno yo no acecho, yo escribo, muchas gracias.
Y me encanta.
