Sanyo rolls out 1Seg-packing "Gorilla" NV-SD585DT GPS unit- Filed under: GPS
Sanyo's Gorilla GPS devices are certainly never lacking when it comes to non-GPS-related features, and it looks like its new NV-SD585DT model is no exception. This one shrinks things down slightly from the last model we saw with a 5.8-inch touchscreen, although you'll still get a 1Seg mobile TV tuner, 4GB of solid state storage, an FM transmitter, an SD card slot, and that same ECO driving mode seen on previous Gorilla models -- not to mention all the usual GPS-related features like weather and traffic information. No word on a price just yet, but those in Japan will be able to get their hands on one starting July 18th.[Via Slash Gear]

- HTC's NEON400: a CDMA Touch Dual?

In HTC parlance, the "Neon" codename denotes a device of the Touch Dual form factor -- original Touch styling plus a slider keyboard, a drill we all know by now. This particular form factor seems to be a pretty popular one, too, considering the sheer number of variants HTC's turned out; at this point, we have one for Europe, one for North America, and one for Japan, and a new FCC filing suggests that there's still at least one more trick in that pony. The so-called NEON400 doesn't give much away from the ID label document that we see here, but test reports indicate that it's sporting CDMA 850 / 1900 -- just right for launching on Sprint, Verizon, Alltel -- you get the idea -- and obviously, we'll see EV-DO in there as well. Against the Touch Diamond, the Dual is starting to look just a little dated, but it gets that all-important keypad that the Diamond lacks -- so even networks that end up launching the Diamond can realistically make room for this one in the lineup when it's announced. According to reports, Acer's tiny Aspire One laptop is now available in three breathtaking variations: the A110L, A150L, and A150X. The A110L sports an Atom N270 CPU, Intel's 946GSE chipset, 512MB or 1GB of RAM, 8GB of NAND flash storage, an 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 display, 802.11b/g, and three USB ports. The other two models come equipped with the same specs, save for a 120GB hard drive in place of the flash storage, and are offered with Linpus Linux, or Windows XP. Excited? - ASUS' Eee 904 gets official. Officially boring.

ASUS has apparently gotten totally, righteously official on its Eee 904, according to reports. Word on the street is that the new iteration of its overflowing line of micro-laptops will be headed to shelves very soon, though it won't exactly pack a groundbreaking set of features. As we previously reported, the system will feature an 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 display -- but now full specs include a 900MHz Celeron M CPU, 1GB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive, and an install of Windows XP on board. Keep in mind the keyboard on this model mirrors the one used on the larger Eee 1000, though little else is different about this model versus the Eee 901 (which incidentally gets a price cut to £299, or about $595). Just take a look across the pond. bit-tech managed to wrap their paws around a retail unit of MSI's Eee PC fighter, and while early reviews sang a lovely song, this one was just a bit flatter. All in all, reviewers found the machine to be useful and totally practical, but it was glaringly obvious that they were none too pleased about MSI jacking up the price of its own machine while the completely identical (save for branding) Advent 4211 was selling for less. If you're listening to these guys / gals, you'll gloss right over the Wind and nab yourself a rebadge, but whichever edition you end up getting, it's sure to be "great" in the grand scheme of things. You're looking at Sharp's 26-inch LCD prototype which uses just a quarter of the power (or a third measured annually) of a conventional CRT with the same screen size. That's low enough to be suitably powered by a Sharp, triple-junction thin-film solar cell module whose surface area is roughly equivalent to that of the LCD screen. Sharp hopes to market the two items as a pair in a bid to "contribute to the environment." Mirando la lista, Resident Evil 2, uno de mis juegos favoritos para PSX, lo jugué antes que la primera entrega, con sus dos personajes, lineas de historia diferente pero que se entrelazaban, sorpresas al terminar el juego, todavía no he conseguido terminarlo sin grabar ni una sola vez.
El resto de la lista, Devil May Cry, nunca he jugado a este juego, así que poco puedo decir, pero si está en esta lista, por algo será, al igual que los que cierran el top 10.

- Gafas con reproductor de vídeo, SONY tiene nuevo producto
- Nuevas gafas multimedia, en este caso SONY se propone poner al mercado (por el 2010) unas gafas con la capacidad de reproducir vídeo.
Por ahora, quieren reducir el peso a unos 80 gramos, está claro que debe ser algo cómodo de llevar y más si queremos darle uso durante más de una hora (lo que dura una película, más o menos). Ahora pesan 120gr.
En la imagen podemos ver esas gafas, algo grandes y demasiado “vistosas”, su uso sería para fuera de casa, en el transporte público, en la playa, en cualquier parte, pero ya sabemos que pasa con estas cosas, hay mucho amigo de lo ajeno suelto por las calles, pero no debe ser motivo para no disfrutar de esta tecnología.
Hace tiempo vi unas gafas que eran parecidas, permitían jugar con la consola y tener nuestra pequeña pantalla para nosotros solos, supongo, y espero, que estas sean mejores y con un precio más que razonable.

- Otro programa para el iPhone, iDial es un dial como los que tenían esos teléfonos de hace algunos años, la ruedecita con los números. Aprovechando la pantalla táctil, le damos un toque retro a nuestro móvil.
A ver cuantos de nosotros a visto un teléfono de estos, con rueda, no hay que mirar muy atrás, yo nací en el 80 y en casa había de estos, que recuerdos y que lentitud al marcar, nada que ver con la marcación por tonos de ahora.

- Controlar Ableton Live con el iPhone
- Otra aplicación para el iPhone o el iPod Touch, un programa que nos permite usar este gadget como controlador MIDI, eso sí, usando un Mac con este software.
El resultado es muy útil para esos directos en los que queremos dar un toque más “geek” al concierto, ya que esto no interfiere en el resultado musical, simplemente es una herramienta más.
Lo ideal es usar el iPod Touch, más que nada por su precio, bastante inferior al del móvil de Apple, pero sirven los dos, basicamente son iguales.
El vídeo es un tutorial que nos enseña como instalar el software en un Mac, en un iPod y “jugar” con el. Yo uso el Live para jugar con los arreglos en directo y usarlo con el iPod Touch me parece una buena idea, gracias a su pantalla táctil.

- El despertador, ¿vivo o muerto?
- Hace tiempo que no uso un despertador, el móvil ha sido el culpable, ya que también cumple esa función, con un sonido menos molesto pero igual de efectivo, ¿se estará dejando de usar tan “amable” compañero de sueños?
No es algo importante, pero conozco a mucha gente que hace como yo, con el móvil, pone su alarma y listo, dejando de lado ese bonito reloj con campanas, ¿la radio? otro aparato que sustituye al despertador, este es un enemigo antiguo, viejo conocido, también usado para rompernos el sueño.
Hace poco quise comprar un despertador, al final y después de mucho mirar, compré una radio con reloj/despertador, pobre reloj con campanas, ¿lo tenemos que enterrar o sigue vivo?

- Revolución de MMORPGs para este año
- Este año 2008 va a ser bastante divertido para todos los jugadores de MMORPGs (¿deberían llamarse trabajadores?), ya que tienen una lista de novedades bastante interesante, aunque corta.
Para comenzar, el Age of Conan, un juego basado en el mundo de Robert E. Howard, es su punto fuerte, lo malo, requiere una gran máquina, es decir, comprar el juego y un PC para acompañarlo. Eso les pasará a muchos.
Otra gran novedad, el que siempre se retrasa, Warhammer Online. El wargame pasado al mundo online, aunque también tiene su versión RPG de mesa. Este me parece mejor que el AoC, será por mi afición por estas miniaturas. Posiblemente un juego que le haga competencia al más grande (por ahora).
World of Warcraft también tiene novedad para este año, nueva expansión, es decir, más de lo mismo, pero con otro nombre y distintos gráficos. Es el que requiere menos PC para jugarlo, eso es un punto a su favor, así como la gran comunidad que hay detrás. Lo malo, requiere mucho tiempo, demasiado.
Esta es la plantilla de este año, si no hay retrasos, para verano el de Conan, para finales los otros dos, todavía no hay fechas oficiales.
Yo no me quedo con ninguno, ¿Cual eliges tu?
Venga, por elegir uno y que no se diga, el Warhammer, para cambiar un poco.

- Khaces añade fotos a sus mensajes
- Otra novedad en Khaces, la red española de microblogging. Guillem (creador de Khaces) me envía un email con todas las novedades (siento el retraso), algunas de las cuales ya he comentado en este blog.
Pero hablemos de la posibilidad de las fotos, hay dos maneras de poner fotos en tus Khaces, una (la más directa), poner la foto directamente en tus mensajes desde la misma web, sencillo y bastante útil, ya se sabe, “una imagen vale más que mil palabras”, en este caso 140.
La otra, los usuarios de Fotolog podrán dar a conocer sus álbumes digitales, cada vez que se suba una foto aparecerá un mensaje en Khaces, por fin veremos la cara de algunos usuarios (sobre todo usuarias).
Estas son las novedades, junto con la actualización por RSS, las más notables de Abril y Mayo.

Nuevas fundas para cámaras digitales, unos bonitos bolsos de Hello Kitty para llevar nuestras pequeñas, el resultado es elegante y bastante acertado.
Lo malo, que es de Hello Kitty y eso supone un incremento del precio “real” del producto, pero lo veo un regalo bastante bueno para una amiga/novia, si no le gusta el rosa, hay una versión en dorado.
He dicho que para regalar lo veo bastante acertado, pero voy a dar mi opinión sobre estas fundas, son horteras y como casi todo lo que lleva el nombre de Hello Kitty, no lo compraría. Sí, le tengo manía a esta marca, no puedo con esto, es superior a mi, sobre todo desde que vi la AK 47 de Kitty.

- The development of Fusion Motion Capture (FMC) by Massey University PhD student Matthew Brodie has some broad implications for sport. Though initially focussed on enabling biomechanical analysis of ski racing, Brodie's FMC system is worn by the athlete and promises much for the understanding of many sports. Unlike traditional biomechanical analysis which uses video cameras, FMC, using a range of inertial sensors, pressure pads and GPS attached to the athlete's limbs, helmet and feet to generate raw data from the athlete's movement. The numbers are then crunched by a computer to produce accurate estimates of the position, velocity and acceleration of the limb segments. Indeed, FMC can be reasonably expected to eventually offer a much deeper understanding of biomechanics for any sport, with particular benefits for sports such as long distance running, cycling, rowing, mountain biking, yachting, skating and even to analyse movements that are normally hidden from view, such as behaviour inside a rugby scrum. FMC almost certainly has other applications, such as postural and gait analysis, an interface for computer games, motion capture for the film and games industry and to provide a visual biomechanical analysis of an athlete playing any sport to enhance the experience of the television audience. - Law enforcement LOVES surveillance cameras -- except when those cameras are used to surveil dodgy busts and get them overturned:
Last year, New York police officers were seen dancing in the streets just before arresting four men in a city nightclub on charges of selling $100 worth of cocaine. It took six months and the men's life savings, but their names were finally cleared when prosecutors took the unusual step of announcing in court that the men had committed no crime.
That's because club surveillance video shows that the undercover cops had no contact with the accused men in the two hours they were in the club.
Now, club owner Eduardo Espinoza says the police are retaliating against him.

Government workers repeatedly snooped without authorization inside the electronic passport records of entertainers, athletes and other high-profile Americans, a State Department audit has found. One celebrity's records were breached 356 times by more than six dozen people...
When the scandal erupted earlier this year, State Department officials suggested that the department maintained a list of "flagged files" to ensure that records of high-profile individuals were not breached. But investigators found that only 38 people were on the watch list, and there was no system or specific methodology for putting them there.
The watch list has since been expanded to more than 1,000 people, including all members of Congress, Supreme Court justices, senior administration officials, and entertainers, media personalities and sports figures.
What's the easiest way to prevent your huge database of highly sensitive personal information from leaking? Don't generate huge databases of highly sensitive information in the first place.

- Barnegat, NJ schools were put into "lockdown" because someone saw a "ninja" (turned out to be a camp counselor in a karate uniform going to a costume party). Lesson learned by students: security alerts are bogus, grownups are idiots.
Public schools in Barnegat were locked down briefly after someone reported seeing a ninja running through the woods behind an elementary school.
Turns out the ninja was actually a camp counselor dressed in black karate garb and carrying a plastic sword.

According to Ronaldo Lemos, by referring to "computer networks", "communication devices" and "information systems", the draft law covers not only computers, but also MP3 players, cell phones, DVD players, software systems and even digital TV set-top boxes, not to mention websites. Following this line of reasoning, the bill would cover even the act of unblocking a cell phone.
The professors claim that no country criminalizes access to information on the Internet in such broad fashion. "The closest legislation to what is being proposed here is the one passed in the USA, which criminalizes the act of circumventing technological protection measures. But no law has criminalized access itself," mentions the brief.
Article 285-B qualifies as a crime -- also punished with 1 to 3 years of imprisonment and a fine -- "to obtain or transfer data or information" without prior authorization of the legitimate owner.
The professors propose the exclusion or amendment of the text of two articles of the draft law. They suggest that the access and transference of information on the Internet be considered a crime only if fraud or "unlawful advantages" are involved.

In Paris, there are organized Segway tours and it’s not uncommon to see a poor tourist being slapped to the ground by a Segway “gone mad” – that’s my experience, at least. Hitachi hopes to roll out a 5TB hard drive by the time 2010 rolls around, claiming that its CPP-GMR (Current Perpendicular to the Plane Giant Magnetoresistance) technology is able to surpass the 1TB/inch barrier within 2 years' time, making way for a 5TB 3.5" hard drive a possibility then. A device that small (relatively) with such a huge capacity will be a boon, and it will definitely be interesting to see how SSD manufacturers fight this battle out. Will space or efficiency rule the day then?

- UMPC y MID, ¿han perdido la batalla con los ultraportátiles?

Llevamos una mañana movida en el ámbito de los dispositivos portátiles que han nacido estrellados. Al ejemplo del Sony mylo se ha unido el MID que planea Benq, que no decimos que sean malos productos, pero sincreamente creemos que han llegado en un momento delicado y no precisamente adecuado para ellos. ¿Hubieran triunfado alguna vez los UMPC?
Pues sinceramente con el hándicap que siempre han tenido en el precio, no lo creo en absoluto. ¿Los MID o UMPC como elementos externos de un teléfono móvil y como competencia de un tipo de equipo, los netbooks o ultraportátiles, que están arrasando entre los usuarios? En absoluto.
De hecho, con el iPhone y teléfonos similares por un lado, y los netbooks por el otro, el concepto de MID o directamente de UMPC debemos eliminarlo de nuestra cabeza. Porque, de los dos equipos que hemos fotografiado arriba, ¿con cuál te quedas?
Para que termines de decidirte te doy una serie de pistas:
Samsung Q1 tiene un precio de 1.000 euros, frente a los entre 400 y 700 euros del HP 2133.
El peso y tamaño es similar o al menos nada decisivo. El netbook de HP pesa unos 300 gramos más.
La ergonomía a la hora de escribir con el teclado a los lados del Q1 es de risa frente al teclado casi completo del Mininote, una maravilla.
La pantalla táctil del modelo de Samsung es lo único en lo que de momento gana, pero en breve no será ni eso.

- Benq podría centrarse exclusivamente en los MID

Sin duda no querría estar ahora mismo en la piel de ningún directivo de una gran compañía de telefonía móvil. El negocio está más vivo que nunca, pero también es más duro de lo que ha sido hasta ahora, y la competencia es feroz e implacable. Motorola lo está viviendo en sus carnes: unos años despistados confiando en recuperar la magia perdida con un modelo fetiche, y cuando se han dado cuenta ya han dejado demasiada ventaja a los demás.
Benq es uno de esos fabricantes que permanecen a la deriva en la telefonía móvil, pero que al contar con otras divisiones van salvando los trastos. Sólo recuerdo ahora a Samsung y HTC como verdaderos aves fénix en la telefonía.
Sea como fuere parece ser que Benq tiene muy avanzada la decisión de olvidarse de su división de telefonía móvil y concentrar esos esfuerzos en equipos MID, que podrían tener un futuro más claro. En el caso del que pretender sacar ellos, dispondría de pantalla de 4.8 pulgadas de tipo táctil, sistema operativo Linux, webcam, conectividad WiFi y 3G y con fecha de salida posiblemente este mismo mes.
¿De verdad hay futuro en los MID o UMPC? En breve os lo contamos.

- Sony mylo ahora permite subir vídeos a Internet directamente

Cuando las cámaras de fotos y vídeo integren conectividad WiFi o 3G de forma masiva, entonces los servicios de vídeo por Internet como Youtube explotarán definitivamente con vídeos hechos por los usuarios. De momento solamente tenemos algunos gadgets que nos permiten subir un vídeo directamente a Internet sin necesidad de que haya un ordenador de por medio. El último en incorporarse a este selecto club es el Sony mylo.
Con la actualización 1.201 de su firmware, los usuarios de un comunicador Sony mylo ya podrán subir vídeos a Internet directamente, sin intermediación del ordenador. Para ello nos valdremos de su webcam de 1.3 megapíxeles y la conectividad WiFi que nos ofrece este cacharro de Sony. Los vídeos se graban en MPEG4.
Otras novedades de esta nueva versión del software del mylo de Sony es la compatibilidad con tarjetas de memoria MS de hasta 16 GB y la mejora de reproducción de los vídeos de Youtube. En el aspecto de reproducción de medios también se ha añadido el soporte para vídeos WMV.
Pese a todas estas funcionalidades, seguimos pensando que este equipo de Sony y otros similares que con un tamaño y precio considerable se quedan a medio camino de los nuevos smartphones completísimos, no van a salir de las manos de los adolescentes ávidos de comunicación sin ataduras a teléfonos móviles.

- Blusens K30, análisis

El Blusens K30 es un disco duro multimedia para el salón, con capacidades de 250, 500 y 750 GB en un disco duro SATA2 interno de 3.5 pulgadas y 7200 rpm. Fue presentado hace un par de meses junto a su hermano el K20, y ofrece reproducción de ficheros audio y vídeo en formato MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, MP3, WMA, OGG Vorbis y AC3.
El modelo que nosotros hemos estado probando es el de 500 GB, con un precio oficial de 150 euros, que a decir verdad no es nada alto. Sus características son bastante comunes y puede ser un producto interesante para aquellos que busquen algo normal a un precio ajustado.
Sin embargo, el reproductor me ha defraudado en varios puntos. Por ejemplo, los menús son algo flojos, rudimentarios, con un diseño muy poco cuidado que da la sensación de estar utilizando un producto del pasado siglo. Esta característica, unida a que el mando a distancia proporcionado no funciona del todo bien, es quizá el punto de inflexión que, al menos a mi, podría hacer que me decidiese por otro aparato.
Comentaba que el mando a distancia no funcionaba del todo bien, y es que hay muchas veces en el que parece que el dispositivo no responde a las ordenes que el usuario le da a través de este periférico. El mando funciona con una pila de botón y tiene un montón de funciones, muchas de ellas que no se llegan a utilizar nunca y que no están ahí más que para rizar el rizo y liar al usuario cuando esté buscando una tecla en concreto en el mando a distancia.
Los menús parecen de otra época, pero son claros y concisos. Apenas se utilizan media docena de iconos para configurar el Blusens K30, y el resto de opciones aparecen siempre como texto que se selecciona mediante un cuadro resaltado en color verde. Nada nuevo.
A la hora de reproducir un fichero, ya sea de audio o de vídeo, siempre da la sensación de que el K30 se cuelga, aunque en realidad está procesando el archivo. Ésto me ha ocurrido con todo lo que he probado, desde audio en MP3, vídeos sueltos en MPEG, hasta vídeos en DVD (una cosa interesante es que puedes insertar la carpeta de un DVD directamente al disco duro y luego te permite reproducirla como si fuese un disco DVD normal).
Este tiempo que el reproductor necesita para reproducir el contenido es bastante negativo para el usuario, ya que aunque no son más de 5-6 segundos, no es normal que el usuario tenga la sensación de que el dispositivo se ha colgado al ir a reproducir un fichero de audio en MP3.
Me ha llamado bastante la atención que, por ejemplo, la película Futurama – El gran golpe de Bender, codificada en XVid (supuestamente soportado) y con sonido AC3, se reproducía a pequeños golpes, dando la sensación de que no iba del todo fluida. Éste problema también lo sufría el sonido, y aunque al principio parecía que todo iba bien, a medida que avanzaba la película iba notando que algo fallaba. Fijándose un poco te dabas cuenta del problema, y terminaba incluso haciéndose algo pesado. De los ficheros de vídeo que he probado, éste problema sólo se ha dado en este fichero, así que más que del K30 seguramente sea problema de que la codificación del archivo no es del todo compatible, aunque inicialmente sí debería serlo.
También me encontré con un problema, y es que a la hora de reproducir uno de los DVD que probé, el Blusens K30 lo inició perfectamente, pero después no dejaba elegir el visionado de la película. En el otro DVD probado sí funcionó sin problemas.
Para añadir contenido al disco, el Blusens K30 funciona como un disco duro externo normal, que se conecta al ordenador mediante un cable USB (como el de las impresoras, no un MiniUSB) y aparece en el sistema operativo como almacenamiento extra. Arrastrar los ficheros, o copiarlos y pegarlos, y listo.
Tras iniciar el Blusens K30 aparece en pantalla un explorador de archivos en forma de árbol, mediante el que podemos ir visualizando todo el contenido y eligiendo qué reproducir. No es necesario meter cada tipo de fichero en una carpeta determinada como por ejemplo ocurre en la PS3 (menudo sistema más cutre, por cierto), sino que se da algo de libertad al usuario para tener ordenado el contenido como él quiera.
En conclusión, el Blusens K30 es un dispositivo que no es caro, pequeño y fácil de usar, y funciona con la mayoría de archivos, aunque no con todos y no siempre bien. Si yo estuviese interesado en adquirir un reproductor de disco duro para el salón, lo tendría en cuenta pero también miraría otras alternativas, aunque sean un poco más caras.

Después de presentar unos cuantos productos nuevos a principios de año, la marca ha anunciado la salida en el mercado español de un interesante disco duro portátil con capacidad para 1 TB. Es el LaCie Little Big Disk Quadra.
Este disco duro diseñado por Neil Poulton en aluminio de disipación térmica viene preparado para soportar muchas horas seguidas de trabajo, por lo que a pesar de que Lacie lo publicita como disco duro portátil, que lo puedo ser, nos parece que le queda mejor el apelativo de disco de sobremesa compacto. Si lo usamos como tal, una de sus más llamativas ventajas es que no necesita fuente de alimentación y toma la energía necesaria del puerto Firewire.
El LaCie Little Big Disk Quadra alberga 1 TB de capacidad y dispone de conectividad para todos los gustos: USB 2.0, dos conexiones Firewire 800 (una compatible con Firewire 400) y un puerto eSATA de 3 Gbits. Además, tiene RAID 0 integrado y es compatible tanto con Mac como con ordenadores con Windows.
El Lacie Little Big Disk Quadra tiene un peso de 650 gramos, aspecto muy robusto y un tamaño de 40 x 85 x 140 mm.

- Pico proyectores de Dell para este año

Pico proyectores, ¿vaporware o realidad?. Pues parece que, finalmente, serán realidad nada más y nada menos que de la mano de Dell a finales de este mismo año.
Estos pico proyectores se caracterizan por ser extremadamente pequeños, en algunos casos incluso integrados en el propio ordenador portátil. Su salida al mercado era algo incierto, pero en CrunchGear afirman tener una fuente muy fiable que les ha dado la información. Sería importante que un gran fabricante como Dell lanzase al mercado las primeras versiones de estos proyectores diminutos, puesto que tiene potencial suficiente como para poder mejorarlos en un futuro, de forma que no se quede como un producto en su primera versión para luego desaparecer. También hay que tener en cuenta que Dell ya tiene en el mercado algunos proyectores convencionales, con lo que no es una empresa novel en este campo.
Acerca de este pico proyector de Dell, no se han filtrado las características técnicas del dispositivo, pero todo apunta a que se conectará al ordenador a través de un puerto USB, con lo que será algo más o menos universal, con la posibilidad de instalarlo en cualquier ordenador sin problemas más que de drivers.

- Pantallas FED de Sony

Las nuevas tecnologías relativas a los televisores que vendrán en los próximos años hablan, sobretodo, de la tecnología OLED, aunque en cierta medida con las pantallas FED, las cuales ya presentamos hace algo más de dos años.
También hemos comentado que Sony estaba preparando pantallas FED, aunque por entonces no sabíamos muy bien su fecha de salida al mercado. Ahora, desde TechRadar afirman que Sony estará preparada para empezar a producir pantallas FED de 26 pulgadas a finales del 2009.
Las pantallas FED, como las OLED, son bastante más eficientes que las actuales LCD, las más compradas en los últimos años. Quizá la diferencia entre ambas sea que algunos modelos OLED, como el Sony XEL-1, son ultrafinos, mientras que sobre las pantallas FED aún se conocen muy pocos datos.
Aún así, lo que más terminará importando será el precio. En los próximos años, tanto las OLED como las FED tendrán precios desorbitados, haciendo que nosotros, los usuarios, continuemos comprando pantallas LCD, las cuales están experimentando un descenso en los precios bastante llamativo. Sea lo que sea, podríamos predecir que los televisores con nuevas tecnologías no serán asequibles al bolsillo hasta dentro de unos 4 o 5 años.

- NZXT Sentry LX, para controlar los ventiladores

Muchas veces es útil tener un cierto control de los ventiladores del ordenador, sobretodo cuando solemos utilizar en poco tiempo aplicaciones muy variadas que utilizan diferentes ritmos de proceso. Todos los ventiladores actuales pueden controlarse vía software, a través de BIOS o de programas concretos que permiten variar diversos parámetros, bien automáticamente o de forma manual.
Para los más exigentes, NZXT Sentry LX es una solución hardware para el control de los ventiladores que permite vigilar de un vistazo la temperatura de hasta 5 sensores, y la velocidad de otros 5 ventiladores. Lo más negativo es que ocupa dos slots de 5¼, los de los lectores/grabadores ópticos, lo que supondrá que en algunas cajas de ordenador sólo reste un hueco libre.
El precio es de unos 60 dólares, no es caro en exceso, pero tampoco es un accesorio fundamental para cualquier usuario, ya que en la mayoría de los casos los ventiladores son controlados automáticamente por el sistema operativo, o incluso por la BIOS. Existe una amplia variedad de ventiladores en el mercado que ya traen un pequeño controlador manual que se instala en el slot de la disquetera, el de 3½, o incluso en algunos casos en una ranura en la parte trasera destinada a las tarjetas PCI.
El control de la velocidad es algo muy útil cuando por ejemplo vamos a ponernos a jugar a algún videojuego medianamente exigente. Tras iniciar el programa el procesador se pone a funcionar a un ritmo mayor, lo cual supone un incremento del calor generado y una mayor carga para el disipador de la CPU. Con una óptima ventilación interna a base de un par de ventiladores en caja se puede conseguir reducir la temperatura del núcleo unos cuantos grados, lo cual incrementa su vida útil y su rendimiento.
También hay que remarcar que, lógicamente, a una mayor velocidad de los ventiladores, éstos generarán mayores niveles de ruido que muchas veces llegan a ser incluso molestos. Lo ideal es encontrar el punto óptimo entre velocidad y ruido, de forma que la CPU no sufra más de lo necesario y nosotros no nos encontremos a disgusto junto al ordenador.

No ha dejado pasar Asus mucho tiempo desde el rumor del otro día sobre sus nuevos equipos de la serie 900, y ya conocemos los datos del nuevo modelo de ultraportátil: Asus Eee PC 904 HD.
Aunque el HD del nombre de este ultraportátil nos haga feliz al menos en la imaginación, este Asus eee PC 904 HD no presenta novedades más allá del mayor tamaño del teclado y del disco, que no será SSD sino tradicional. De ahí lo de HD del nombre.
El Asus PC 904 sale a la venta de momento en el Reino Unido a un precio más reducido de la actual gama. Estará rondando los 350 euros, con pantalla de 8.9 pulgadas, disco duro tradicional y teclado de tamaño completo.
Mientras esto ocurre en el Reino Unido, aquí en España contando solamente con el modelo 701, el más básico, y que ha sido ya superado por numerosos rivales. Y a partir de septiembre, por todos.

- Proyector de sonido Yamaha con reescalado de vídeo

Yamaha ha presentado en sociedad su nuevo proyector de sonido. Evidentemente en el aspecto de sonido no hay mucha novedad que remarcar. Se trata de nuevo de un sistema de altavoces compacto que crea el efecto de sonido envolvente sin ocupar apenas espacio, con la ventaja de poder colocarlo debajo del televisor si lo tenemos colgado de la pared.
El nuevo proyector de sonido Yamaha YSP-3050 está compuesto de 23 amplificadores que trabajan para dar sonido a 21 pequeños altavoces y 2 subwoofers. El sonido que simula es el mismo que el de un sistema 5.1, compatible con SRS, DTS Neo:6 y Dolby Digital. Además podemos escoger entre diferentes combinaciones de los altavoces, como la proyección de sonido para una sola persona.
La novedad que nos ha gustado de este proyector de Yamaha es que puede actuar como reescalador de vídeo que introducimos en el sistema por medio de señal compuesta, HDMI (dos puertos de entrada) o de componentes. Luego, gracias a la salida HDMI, podemos obtener una imagen a 720p y 1080p.
El proyector también lleva radio FM y soporte para XM Radio, además de una base opcional para colocar un iPod. Si te ha gustado, el precio seguramente te eche para atrás: 1.400 dólares.
